Farida Yusif

Journalist and storyteller exploring how the spaces where we learn, gather, and live shape education, community, culture, and belonging.

About Me

I’m Farida Yusif, a journalist and storyteller interested in architecture, design, and the spaces where people learn, gather, and build community.

My work explores how educational and community spaces are designed, how people experience them, and what those spaces tell us about culture, identity, and belonging.

How I Work

I begin with people.

Whether I’m looking at a classroom, university, library, community center, neighborhood, or public space, I’m interested in more than how it was designed. I want to understand how people actually experience it.

My work combines reporting, observation, conversation, and curiosity to examine the relationship between the intentions behind a space and the realities of the people who use it.

My Ethos

I believe spaces tell stories.

They reveal what we value, who we make room for, how we understand community, and sometimes, who gets left out.

My journalism is grounded in curiosity, context, and listening. I want to tell stories that make familiar environments worth examining again and that center the people whose everyday experiences give those spaces meaning.
